Rental Facility Contractors in the Upper Midwest now have a new source for rental equipment. Road Machinery & Supplies Company established RMS Rentals in 1999 to meet the general and light equipment needs of existing customers as well as reach out to new customers.

"In the past, customers have relied on our company for heavy construction equipment", said RMS president Mike Sill II. "With RMS Rentals, we hope to fill those same needs in the general and light equipment field".

As the name implies, RMS Rentals will rent the general and light equipment for the short or long term. Sill says most of the equipment will also be available for sale.

"Occasionally, our construction equipment customers need smaller equipment," said Sill.

"They may need it for a day or two, or they may want to own it. In addition to our existing customers, we also want to provide this equipment to mechanical, electrical, concrete, and masonry contractors - groups we haven't dealt with very much in the past".

According to Carson Erickson, General Manager of RMS Rentals, one of the focuses will be on concrete finishing equipment. "We have walk-behind and riding trowels and screeds for concrete floors," he said. "We also intend to be able to fully equip the residential utility contractor".

One way RMS Rentals will do that is through Komatsu Utility Corporation's (KUC) line of compact construction equipment.

"The small excavators and small dozers from KUC fit very well with what the small contractor needs to get his work done", said Erickson. "They usually don't have a lot of room to work in and these machines will fit. They can also be equipped with rubber tracks, which cause much less damage than steel-track machines".

RMS Rentals has also introduced Komatsu's new line of tractor backhoes. The new models include the WB140-2 and WB150-2.

One-Stop Shop

RMS Rentals is part of Road Machinery & Supplies' effort to be a one-stop shop for customers, offering a full line of products backed by service and parts support.

"If our customers need it, we want to have it for them", is the way Sill put it.

"They're busy people and their time is money. They don't want to spend that valuable time running all over to try to find what they're looking for. They want to be able to make a call and have the machine delivered right away. That's what RMS Rentals will do for them".

Stand behind products

In addition to the convenience factor, dealing with RMS Rentals provides customers with peace of mind.

"Our company has tradition and stability and a reputation for customer service", said Sill. "It's a tradition we intend to extend to RMS Rentals. All of the equipment will be serviced properly before going out to a customer. And we'll have service technicians dedicated to the general and light equipment to keep it running on the job".

While the Savage branch was the first to open RMS Rentals, plans are for each RMS branch to have a rental operation. Contact your local Road Machinery & Supplies branch for more rental information.
